Central Christian Crusaders Football

August 21, 2015

Central Christian’s first Friday of the football season didn’t go as planned, though it did include a victory. A lapse in communication between Central and Ezekiel Academy forced a scheduled opener to be cancelled, but with enough time for a last-minute scrimmage at home with Central Fellowship of Macon. While leaving definite room for improvement, the Crusaders showed much the same potential from last year’s league and national tournament 8-man titles en route to a 48-0 rout that included a mix of contributions from returning starters and new faces. The Crusaders, heading into its first year in the GICAA-AA West Division, built a 26-0 lead at halftime, opening the scoring on their second offensive possession when Farlow broke free from 65 yards. Returning linemen Jesse Parkerson, Jordan Fuller and Jared Ruck, all seniors, dominated the line of scrimmage. Senior transfer Jaquez ‘Deion’ Blackmon returned an interception 48 yards for another score during an impressive debut. He finished with 59 yards rushing and two touchdowns and also added another score off a 70-yard pass play. Sophomore backup quarterback Caleb Ruck also scored a touchdown while also among a large group of newcomers that contributed immediately. Sophomore fullback Marcellus Giles scored on a 38-yard touchdown run. On defense, sophomores Dustin Terrell and Avery Staples made contributions at cornerback and linebacker, respectively. Senior transfer Colt Dooley was solid in his first action at linebacker while freshman tailback Chris Nugent scored on a 25-yard run in addition to strong play at corner. Central will now officially open the season on Friday against Hancock Academy out of Sparta at home. The game is scheduled to be held at East Coweta Middle School, though Central is hoping to have lights installed on campus soon for its home games
