Central Christian Crusaders Football
August 28th, 2015
SPARTA — After an extra week of waiting, Central Christian was rewarded for its patience by routing John Hancock Academy 70-8 in its delayed 2015 season opener – the Crusaders’ first official action since winning an Alabama Christian league title as well as a national tournament championship in 8-man football. Central jumped out to a 40-0 lead in the second quarter, picking up four touchdowns from senior quarterback Jared Farlow and three from senior running back Jaquez “Deion” Blackmon, who finished with 173 yards rushing. Farlow combined for well over 200 all-purpose yards while also scoring on an interception return and a punt return in the victory. The Crusaders were scheduled to open the season on Aug. 21, but a date with Ezekiel Academy was canceled due to scheduling conflicts. Fullbacks Bailey Todd and Marcellous Giles made contributions. Todd had 55 yards rushing and Giles caught a 35-yard touchdown pass in the win. Senior Colt Dooley, who posted 10 tackles, also scooped up a Hancock fumble and returned it 30 yards for a score. Freshman Chris Nugent also had several big carries in the victory.
